HEIC Viewer

Received a HEIC file that will not open? This viewer displays it directly in your browser on any system: Windows, Android, Linux, ChromeOS, anywhere with no codecs installed. The decoder loads on demand and decodes on your device; the file never leaves your computer.

The HEIC decoder is downloaded to your browser once, then your file is decoded and displayed on your device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to use the heic viewer

  1. Drop a .heic or .heif file onto the viewer, or click to browse.
  2. The photo opens instantly, decoded locally in your browser.
  3. Check the dimensions and file size shown under the preview.
  4. If you need the file usable elsewhere, download it as JPG or PNG on the spot.

Since viewing usually turns into needing the file somewhere else, a one-click download as JPG or PNG is included. No account, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Why will HEIC files not open on my computer?

HEIC is Apple's High Efficiency format, and support outside Apple devices requires codecs that Windows and many Linux systems do not ship by default. A browser-based viewer sidesteps the problem entirely: the decoder travels with the page.

Does the viewer upload my photo?

No. The decoder is JavaScript that runs inside your browser. Your photo is read from disk into memory, decoded, and displayed, all on your device. There is no server in the path, which you can confirm in your browser's network tab: no file bytes are transmitted.

Can it open HEIF, Live Photos, or HEIC bursts?

HEIF still images open normally. Live Photo video components are separate files and out of scope for an image viewer; bursts open frame by frame, one file at a time.
