Why do iPhone photos come as HEIC?
Since iOS 11, Apple defaults to HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container), same visual quality as JPG at roughly half the size, using the HEVC video codec. The catch is support: Windows without extensions, older software, and many websites still reject it.
Are my HEIC photos uploaded anywhere?

Is there a quality loss converting HEIC to JPG?
One re-encode, at quality 90+ effectively invisible. Expect the JPG to be roughly twice the HEIC's size. That is the price of universal compatibility, not a flaw in the conversion.
