Frequently asked questions
What size should I resize to?
Match the display size: full-width website photos often use 1920px; product images 800–1200px; thumbnails 200–400px. Allow for high-density screens where needed. Downscaling an oversized photo can substantially reduce its file size.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Downscaling often reduces file size, but not in a fixed ratio. A 4000×3000 photo at 2000×1500 has a quarter of the pixels, not necessarily a quarter of the bytes. Format, image content and encoding settings also affect the result.
Can I make an image larger?
Yes, but upscaling interpolates between existing pixels rather than recovering source detail. Even a modest enlargement can look soft. Check the result at its intended display size before downloading.
Will my image get stretched?
Not with the aspect lock on (the default): width and height stay proportional. Unlock it only when you deliberately want to change the shape. The interface makes both states obvious.
