4K and retina screenshots can be too wide for documentation columns or too heavy for tickets and slides. The reason a screenshot looks fine on your screen but wrong everywhere else is pixel density. A "1440p" capture on a retina display is often 2880 pixels wide in the actual file, so it overflows a help-doc column, blows past an attachment size limit, or forces a reader to scroll sideways to see a single dialog box. Setting a real target width once, before the image leaves your machine, solves all three at the same time.

Pick a target width for where it will live
For a knowledge base or help doc, aim for 1200–1600px wide. That is enough for interface text to stay crisp inside a typical content column without shipping a multi-megabyte file on every page. For a bug tracker or support ticket, 1600–2000px is usually plenty and slips comfortably under common attachment caps.
For slides and thumbnails, resize to the exact frame you are dropping the image into rather than letting the presentation software scale it for you, which is where fuzzy, inconsistent screenshots come from. Keep the aspect ratio locked throughout so nothing stretches, and resize the original capture rather than an already-shrunk copy, since each round of scaling costs a little sharpness.

What size do documentation and tickets need?
Check the destination column width and any attachment limits first. Around 1200–1600px wide is a useful starting point for many documents, but small interface text may need more pixels. Check the downloaded file for readability and size rather than relying on a fixed savings percentage.
Will resizing make the text blurry?
It can. Downscaling discards pixels, so fine text and thin lines may soften or disappear. An export around 2× the displayed width can help on high-density screens, but always inspect the result at the intended display size and keep the original capture.
Can I resize a whole folder of screenshots to the same width?
