Frequently asked questions
Can I blur only part of an image?
Not here: this tool blurs the entire image, stated plainly. Partial blurring (a face, a license plate) needs region selection; crop the region you need blurred with the crop tool, blur it here, then composite it back in any editor.
Is blurring reversible?
A strong blur destroys the underlying detail; that is the point when hiding sensitive content, and it is why the blur is effective. A weak blur on simple graphics can sometimes be partially undone, so never rely on light blur to protect secrets. Use strong settings, or pixelate instead.
What strength should I use to hide information?
40 and above: at that level individual characters and faces are not recoverable. For everything aesthetic (backgrounds, soft focus), 4–15 usually looks best.
Does blurring change the file size?
Usually it shrinks: blur removes high-frequency detail, which is exactly what image compression spends bytes on. Expect 10–30% smaller files at the same quality setting.
