That rectangle is the only part guaranteed to be visible on phones, tablets, desktops, and TVs alike, so anything outside it is effectively optional decoration that many of your visitors will never see.
Use the full 2560×1440 canvas for atmosphere: colour, texture, or imagery that looks great edge-to-edge on a TV and simply gets cropped gracefully elsewhere.
