Frequently asked questions
Why does Instagram crop my photos?
The feed accepts ratios between about 1.91:1 (wide) and 4:5 (tall). Outside that range Instagram trims to fit, usually butchering the composition. Pre-resizing to an exact ratio puts you in control of the crop.
Is 1080×1080 still the standard post?
It is the classic, but 4:5 (1080×1350) occupies about 25% more feed height and has become the default recommendation for single photos. Both remain fully supported.
Can I post higher than 1080px wide?
You can upload it, but Instagram downscales to 1080px anyway. Beyond ~1440px you are purely wasting upload time and mobile data.
