The canvas previews the converted result live as you adjust the settings. Click Convert for the exact size and a before/after split — drag the divider to judge the quality, then download. The original file is never modified.
Your images are processed locally in your browser and never uploaded to any server.
WebP does everything GIF does (transparency included) and this conversion yields the still image from your GIF at a fraction of the size with full color instead of a 256-color palette. For animated content, WebP animation typically beats GIF by 50%+; this tool exports the leading frame.

Frequently asked questions
Does the output stay animated?
This converter outputs a single still WebP from the first frame, reliable and predictable. Encoding true animated WebP requires a per-frame pipeline we have deliberately not shipped half-done; the still conversion covers thumbnails, avatars, and previews.
Why is WebP better than GIF for stills?
GIF is limited to 256 colors, dithers gradients badly, and compresses inefficiently. WebP offers full color, lossy or lossless modes, and a modern alpha channel, usually at 50–90% smaller size.
Where does animated WebP actually work?
Every current browser plays animated WebP. The practical problem is creation tools: most exporters still target GIF. If you have an animated GIF and need it smaller, dedicated animation converters handle per-frame WebP encoding.
