Extract a still frame from a GIF as a lossless PNG with transparency preserved, ideal for stickers, reaction stills, and editing. The conversion runs locally; your GIFs are never uploaded.
The reason to pull a GIF frame into PNG rather than JPG is transparency. GIFs frequently designate one colour as invisible, cut-out stickers and reaction images especially, and JPG would fill that area with a solid background. PNG converts that transparency into a proper alpha channel and keeps every pixel exactly, giving you a clean still you can drop onto any background or take into an editor.
How to use the gif to png converter
- Add your GIF file(s).
- PNG keeps every pixel and the alpha channel from the first frame.
- Convert and download.
- Batch jobs arrive as one ZIP via Download All.
A clean, transparent still
Use this when the frame needs to keep its transparency or feed into further editing: stickers, cut-out reaction images, and graphics all belong in PNG for that reason. The tool takes the first frame and converts it losslessly, so nothing is degraded on the way out of the GIF.
For editing a single frame, PNG is also the more comfortable format to open in most tools, and its full-colour, real-alpha result sidesteps GIF's 256-colour limit entirely. If you only need a flat photo with no transparency, the GIF to JPG tool produces a smaller file; and full frame-by-frame export is a job for a dedicated animation utility, which this converter deliberately does not pretend to be.
Frequently asked questions
Is GIF transparency kept in the PNG?
Yes. GIF's binary transparency (a designated "invisible" color) converts to a proper PNG alpha channel, including the semi-transparent smoothing only PNG can express afterward.
Can I get every frame as separate PNGs?
Not here. This tool extracts the first frame, the standard use-case, and is upfront about it. Full frame export is a job for a dedicated animation utility.
GIF vs PNG for static graphics?
PNG every time: full color instead of 256 colors, real alpha instead of one transparent color, and better compression. GIF's remaining raison d'être is animation, and even that WebP does better now.
