Flipping vs rotating: which do you need?
A flip mirrors the image across an axis; a rotation turns the whole canvas. Flipped text stays readable-but-reversed while rotated text goes sideways, so for fixing orientation you want rotation, and for mirror effects you want a flip. Both tools sit side by side here, so the full fix is never more than a click away.
One caution worth knowing: flipping a photo of a recognizable scene (a landmark, a handwritten sign, a product label) produces a visually-plausible but factually wrong image. Fine for design symmetry. For documentation or journalism, keep the original orientation.
Frequently asked questions
Is flipping the same as rotating 180°?
No. Rotating 180° turns the image upside down; flipping both ways produces the same visual result via mirroring. But flipping just horizontally (or just vertically) gives a result rotation cannot: a mirror image where left and right trade places while up stays up.
Why do my selfies look flipped?
Front-facing cameras often mirror the preview to match what you see in a physical mirror, but save the un-mirrored version, or vice versa. Flipping the saved photo horizontally restores the version you expected while composing the shot.
Does flipping lose quality?
The mirror itself is an exact pixel rearrangement with zero resampling. The only quality step is the final re-encode at your chosen setting. 90+ for JPG/WebP is visually lossless, and PNG output is pixel-exact.
Can I flip many images at once?

Which formats can I flip?
