Why are BMP files so enormous?
BMP is essentially uncompressed: width × height × bytes-per-pixel, plus headers. A 1920×1080 24-bit BMP is about 6 MB where a quality-85 JPG of the same content is around 300 KB. A 95% saving is normal.
Is BMP to JPG lossless?
No, JPG is lossy, but the perceptual loss at quality 85+ on a pristine BMP source is essentially zero. If you truly need lossless from BMP, use the BMP to PNG tool instead.
